OnLive Is this the future of gaming?

It was announced during GDC 09 that OnLive will be released winter of 2009 after seven years of development. The creator of QuickTime web TV Steve Perlman founder and CEO, came out on stage to demonstrate their new console OnLive, this is the world’s highest performance Games On Demand service. This service will make top titles available to you instantly to you TV, PC, or Mac. There is no downloading or installation of games, they are streamed strait into your room. Stating that this will be the most lowest cost gaming consoles, giving more money to spend on games.

This console does not have as many features compared to the other current gen consoles but it does have a few that the other consoles lack. The games that are shown can be rented, bought, and demoded. One of the most inventive features is when deciding to buy a game you can watch others players and watch the trailer with out have to download or wait to buffer the video. Another feature is it live community, where you create your profile with avatar and personalized video to show others who you really are. With your friends you can see what they are playing and recorded videos of games that they have played. This console gives us new ways to play games, such as if you are out of town and one of your children want to play a game of Lego Batman with you, this system makes that possible you would log to OnLive from your computer and you would be able to join in on the games your child is at home playing,

The price of this console has not been made public, it is a possibility that you can get the console for free by signing up for a service contract, no details gave been made yet. The main device is small enough to fit in you pocket, contains HDMI 780p and optical audio output. Located on the back it the HDMI, optical, and Ethernet ports and on the front is two USB ports for plugging in you wireless controller. There is also a wireless controller available. Controller has the same set up as the XBox 360 controller, two joysticks, a D-pad, two triggers and four buttons. It also has buttons for media play, stop and so on. As for the internet speed required to run this, for SDTV you new a connection speed of one point five Mbps and for HDTV you will need five Mbps, both are under the standard high speed internet connections and makes it lag free.

Companies that have already partnered up with OnLive are EA, Ubisoft, Take 2, Warner brothers games, Atari, and THQ to name a few. The games that have already been made to work on this console are such games as BioShock, FEAR 2, Lego Batman, Prince of Persia, and more will be made possible by the time this system come to market.

Cloud gaming my ass. Well . . . everything i had to say about this, I said on the podcast. To sum it up, I think it's bullsh*t for a number of reasons, and I'm not doing it.
