Here comes a photo captured from my new Hauppauge HD PVR 1212. I picked one up at Fry's for about $200, and also got a Component Video cable for my PS3. Basically my method is that I've got both the Component and HDMI cables from the PS3 into the TV, so I can switch it through the PS3 firmware over to Component (720P) when I want to capture (and then just flip my TV to the Component 1 input) and then back when I want to see it in 1080P. Not a bad solution. The PVR has a straight pass-through the Component video so it doesn't lag your gaming experience which is very nice.

So there's what a screen cap looks like, at the best quality available from the included ArcSoft "Total Media Extreme" software. One thing I don't like is there's no way through the software to get a completely uncompressed feed, but I haven't tried a capture through Adobe Premiere yet (...dang Vista Reinstall...), and apparently Sony Vaio's camera capture app doesn't recognize the capture source either.

So, what do you guys think of the quality? (If some of you video wizards out there know another app I should try please let me know)

You might have to go to Adobe to get a patch for the Hauppag PVR 1212. or read the manual to see what they say about not recognizing the card and find a default hardware listing that will give you basic functioning...

I tested it finally with Adobe Premiere CS3. It won't capture direct from the source (or at least I haven't figured out to yet). I've tried some other capture softwares too and there's apparently some specific function that the ArcSoft recorder does that others won't that it. Basically from Arcsoft I have 2 options of saving (.TS or .M2TS), then I have to play it in another prog like Windows Media, Adobe Premiere, etc.

What I really need is a good frame grabber software that will let me play a .TS video and capture frames with a single keystroke at the original resolution easily. I've tried ArcSoft's Total Media Extreme and it's a piece of junk (the default video player that comes with the card), it has a one keystroke capture function, but it does it at the current viewsize which is rescaled (and there's no way to set it back exactly to 1280x720).
