A Little Disenchanted, am I the only one? Empty A Little Disenchanted, am I the only one?

Post  BitRunner Wed Feb 25, 2009 3:42 am

Since these forums have come along, I have to tell you, I've been a little bit disenchanted with the official PS Home forums. I get on and still check every day, but only really to see if Locust/Cyd have posted anything. It seems like any good discussions on there have kind of fallen off and we're only left with "I want a pony NOW!!!" threads and the typical 5th grade bitching.

Since this forum has come into play, it seems to have drawn most of the mature users on the forums that I talk to anyway. So to that end, does there seem to exist a point in conversing on the official forums other than the general advertising of this forum, keeping up with the news, and other typical no-brainers that necessitate conversing on the forums?

Feel free to enlighten me of course if I'm wrong. I don't claim this is the way things are necessarily, just the way I feel right now.

No, I definitely get what you're saying, BitRunner. The way I've seen it is that the closer Home got to Open Beta, the worse the PS Home Forums got. It spiraled further and further out of control with each wave of invites, and it was lost once the stress testers came in (I still wish I could've seen Home before then...*sigh*).

This site is a breath of fresh air away from the nonsense over at PSU, and I'm glad it was created. ^_^

I hate to say it... but I told you so. Razz

It became official once the floodgates opened, I knew the complaints were bound to happen with home in that state. The forum because a cesspool of returds.

I was part of the Closed Beta .. i didn't B*tch .. Jiggy can Vouch for me, Remember JT when me and you sat in my Home APT and chatted and you asked me what i thought about Home and i told you what i thought of it as ( a Place too meet gamers and chat different things like a chat application that it's NOT A GAME )and you were pleased that i said that cause i saw what home was and not like some others on the boards. well it was a nice quiet time in home then but i was new but i didn't see tons of people a nice amount of normal people then the real idiots came when OB started.

and i wanna get back on track here.... the one reason i am disgusted over their is the HC Sh*t and Pelite running his mouth. I hate to say it tho but .. i don't see it ending anytime soon and people still go for it and people like Ninja will stick up for Pelite ... it's sad and Pathetic ... i wanna see his HC Owner comment go and the HC Threads gone to not be heard of again. if their was only a way we can complain to the mods with a valid reason to take out the HC threads and his sig...

I agree Bitrunner, the regular Home forum stinks. There is a miasma in the air whenever I log on. Sure I poke around a bit, but honestly the people that I enjoyed reading and responding too are mostly moving here or have moved here.

I like having intelligent and thought provoking discussions/debate. I don't like when in denigrates into a flame war.

I seems that most people who have made the jump here are posting with renewed enthusiasm and are now once again enjoying talking about the online community. In fact, this new forum looks like it is making new bonds of friendship across the demographic spectrum. Ironic really, because that is what Home was supposed to do.

So yes Bitrunner, I hear and understand your feelings. I'm just happy to have this new HOME to call HOME...(that was a bit much wasn't it? Laughing )

That was very nicely put Duck. That "comradery" on the official forum has diminished so much.

Yep, I hate to say it too, but I think you're right. That super sized piece of dog sh*t will not be going anytime soon. It just amazes me how people support pelite. Realy, I think most of his supports are 1) his duplicate accounts and 2) mostly lil' young whipper snappers that don't know any better.

I agree with all of you guys. I wasnt on the CB for how long you guys were, I was on for about 1-2 weeks before the OB and i broswed the CBF and say how nice and orderly it was none of this that is on the HF. The only thing i can say i saw on the HF is that of people sitting there talking about "I WANT HOME TO BE OPEN" or "I WANT IN CLOSED BETA".

Of course i was posting stuff like that or adding to those post like "So does everyone else".

Well I gotta say to everyone Thankx for having a place were we all can hang out and shoot the Sh*t.

    Thankx all Very Happy

This site is a breath of fresh air away from the nonsense over at PSU, and I'm glad it was created. ^_^

Well, I have to admit, that I was posting on the public Home forums back in early 2008, and there were a lot of people bitching back then too, but not to the hateful degree that they are now. Once I got into the closed beta (back around September), the air definitely changed going from the open to the closed beta forums, discussions were obviously a lot more civil in the CB forums. I fully expected like Teddy said (later in this thread) though that there would be an influx of really pissed off people once OB was released and it didn't have all of the anticipated features. Basically what I'm saying is, I can't in any way claim that I'm "old school" when it comes to the Home community (I have been following Home though since it was first advertised), but I've been around long enough to see the big difference.

The culture over in the open beta forums has drastically changed from the time I first started posting there until now. Now I see jokers like BobTheEnzyteGuy and Gamesharq trolling peoples' threads for lulz, and other people love to join in instead of stepping up and beating them down, and the trolling always slips by moderation. Then you have moderators spending their time deleting any threads longer than 2 sentences, just to make sure that everyone posts suggestions on the suggestions threads. The end result is that it's a total waste of time now. I'm not even going to get into the HC for now except to say that I've dubbed it the "n00b conference", and Proph is a wolf in snake's clothing (as opposed to sheep's clothing since he's so obvious). I think like Ducky said, miasma is the perfect word to describe it all.

I like the system over here better anyway, segmented forums (some about Home and some not), and it shows you flags on new threads/replies instead of literally bringing about a culture where people only care about the first 2 pages. It just makes a lot more sense.

Hey Bit. Yep, I rarely hang out in the PS Home forums anymore. I just don't find it as engaging as it used to be when I first got plugged in back in November. I still drop in on occasion but not much there to keep pulling me in. Thank the sweet baby Jesus for N1's!! Smile
